Who doesn’t want to see Istanbul? Ancient, magnificent and utterly captivating, whatever you hear about it, won’t be enough. This bustling megapolis is the only city in the world located on two continents, hence presenting a mix between the east and the west.
That being said, I couldn’t hold my excitement when I finally booked my trip to Istanbul. As a first-timer there, I wanted to get as much as I can from the city and looked for a hotel that offers both – great location and excellent local experience.
Hereby, I chose Hotel Bankerhan – a neat and contemporary boutique hotel – as a base for my stay in Istanbul.
Hidden gem in the heart of Istanbul
Hotel Bankerhan is located in the charming neighborhood of Karaköy in Beyoğlu district of Istanbul. Priceless if you want to stay in a perfect central location, meters from the Galata tower and Kamondo Steps, yet in a quiet quarter with picturesque narrow streets, cute local boutiques and cozy artistic cafes.
I must say that I really loved the atmosphere in this area. Moreover, it’s quite easy to move everywhere around the city, since there are bus and tram stops near the hotel and the Karakoy Ferry Port is within a walking distance.
Thriving combination of classic and urban
Used as a “han” (an inn), the house was functioning as a local merchants’ hub.
The former historical building is now transformed into a contemporary boutique hotel where old and new collaborate together to create cozy accommodation with a pinch of creativity and art.
Hotel Bankerhan mixed the right formula to become one of the most exquisite hotels in Istanbul.
Once I stepped into the hotel I immediately got the urban vibe. The reception and the small cafe stood out with original furnishing and stunning photographs. The artistic decor is a perfect finish to the overall impeccable style of hotel Bankerhan.
When it comes to a service, the staff at Bankerhan thicked all my boxes. Incredibly helpful, remarkably polite and always smiling.
You know some places are just too good.
Charming nest above the mighty Bosphorus
I stayed in one of the 36 trendy rooms on the 5th floor with a magnificent view of the Bosphorus.
Yes, that means I had almost the whole city of Istanbul at my feet.
All of the rooms and the tree lofts are well-equipped with any essentials necessary for a pleasant stay. An incredibly good value gives the boutique natural skincare included in the free toiletries. Furthermore, the rain shower placed in every bathroom feels just heavenly.
Some of the rooms are with Japanese style beds for those who want to have a different experience.
From the moment I entered my room the ceiling grabbed my attention. The old bricks and original wooden beams are put on display creating a warm and cozy feeling.
At the same time the modern touch of the room, the superb view and the complimentary bottles of quality mineral water create a luxurious ambient.
The comfortable king-size bed, as soft as a cloud, the silky sheets and the fluffy pillows were everything I needed. After a whole day exploring Istanbul, crashing into my bed brought a pure joy to my tired body and a good deep sleep.
Furthermore, thanks to the hotel’s location and the excellent soundproof walls, I wasn’t disturbed by any noise.
Some of the top floor rooms have a spacious terrace with a jaw-dropping almost 360-degree panorama of Istanbul. Immagine observing the traffic on Galata bridge and the ships passing the Bosphorus while sipping your morning coffee.
Could you possibly ask for more?
Yes, quality food.
Breakfast Turkish style
Being a top-notch hotel, Bankerhan offers a pleasing complimentary breakfast.
After I made the most of my lie in, I headed to the hotel’s cafe to have a snack.
The rich cold buffet with fine Turkish cheese, ham, olives and juicy tomatoes, as well as some freshly made pastries, jams and traditional yogurt, were more than enough to fill my stomach.
As a conclusion, Hotel Bankerhan is a real gem just off the beaten path in marvelous Istanbul. It’s a perfect spot if you are wondering where to stay in Istanbul. No matter if it is a family vacation, business trip or romantic getaway, you’ll be impressed with the warm-hearted atmosphere and uncompromised attention.
All that at a really reasonable price.
